If you inspect the element in firebug and click the “Destroy” button you can see that the tooltips are not being destroyed and remain in the DOM. An additional artifact is left behind as well which is a persistent tooltip. In a normal page (not jsfiddle) if you try to destroy the tooltips and re-initalize them…it leaves the old tool tips and creates a new set as well.

So how do you destroy specific tooltips based on the ID they were initialized with?

The problem I am having is if I refresh content on a page (not the entire page itself) it keeps spawning tooltips and chewing up memory as well as creating undesired side effects like persistent tooltips being displayed.

Really need your help on this one.

Tooltips, in my opinion, is one area where this needs a rework. You should be able to use a destroy method on a single tooltip or on a tooltip group or all tooltips at once.
